Live the everyday life
of a nose
For six hours, you don’t simply watch how a fragrance is created: you enter the creative process. The guidelines provide a language; exploration of the facets builds your palette; and experimentation transforms your intention into a formula. You choose, combine, dose, and evaluate, accompanied by a fragrance-formulator who makes every decision legible without imposing his or her direction.
The program
of your day
The day begins with the basics that allow us to read a fragrance: the role of smell, families, the olfactory pyramid and the place of materials. Far from being an abstract course, these concepts prepare the creative gestures and give you simple words to describe what you feel.
Guided by a perfumer-trainer, you discover the facets prepared by Cinquième Sens and observe their intensity, texture, and the images or memories they evoke. By comparing several proposals, you gradually go beyond the simple «I like» or «I don’t like.» This exploration builds your personal palette, to which you will return to choose, combine, and adjust your formula.
Before applying the fragrance, you give direction to your creation: luminous, enveloping, woody, floral or contrasting. Words, memories and sensations become your personal brief. The perfumer-formulator helps you translate it into a selection of facets and compare the initial idea with the actual effect perceived. The composition thus gains a unifying thread that suits you.
You move on to the formulation with 19 facets created by Cinquième Sens. Choose, combine, balance, feel again: each trial reveals the effect of a proportion or contrast. The method provides benchmarks without dictating your decisions. You remain the author of the direction, while the perfumer-formulator helps you maintain balance and make precise changes to the formula.
A formula is also revealed over time. You feel your experiment, identify what deserves to be strengthened or toned down, then make the final adjustments. This final reading ties your intention, your choices, and the resulting fragrance together. The composition is then put into a bottle: you leave with 30 ml of your creation, a tangible trace of a day spent feeling, understanding, and formulating.

The Discovering Day is a generous immersion, but it does not replace professional training. To structure the fundamentals, the Introduction to Perfumery and the Language of Odors (level 1) is a natural follow-up. If you are preparing a career change or a creative project, the Designer Olfactive courses from Cinquième Sens Institute gradually introduce the sense of smell, technique, and formulation.
