The guest was Aurélien Guichard, Perfumer-creator and co-founder of the Maison PRIMARY MATERIAL.
Aurélien has worked for major fragrance houses such as Givaudan and Firmenich and has 20 years of olfactory creations to his credit. He is responsible for several successes for Issey Miyake, Narciso Rodriguez and Nina Ricci, among others.
He is now a perfumer at Takasago International Corporation. In parallel, in order to perpetuate the family's know-how, he created an organic farm where he grows his own aromatic plants.
His vision of the perfume market and this experience as a farmer led him to found his perfume brand. PRIMARY MATERIAL.
Indeed, he wishes to create «contemporary, direct and comprehensible compositions» for consumers that are nonlinear. They are composed of an overabundance of raw material, which is then faceted.
«French Flower,» for example, is an overdose of tuberose (grown on his farm in Grasse) and is present in the fragrance through two extraction methods: absolute and enfleurage; and is complemented by notes of ginger, green tea and pear.
« Radical Rose » contains centifolia rose, dosed to the maximum allowed by the IFRA, also grown 100% on its own farm.
At its launch at Harrod’s in late 2019, the collection consisted of 6 perfumes; today, there are 10 creations available that we took the time to sample. All of them are concentrated between 15 and 25%.
