Have you ever wondered how Americans, Japanese, and even French people used to smell? In terms of perfume, tastes around the world can change completely. For example, culturally, Japanese people tend to turn to more discreet and light scents. Some travel guides even mention that it is frowned upon to take public transport with a too strong perfume! Conversely, in the Middle East, opulence reigns supreme, with oud wood and rose in particular being the leading figures. Of course, these general ideas need to be nuanced: with globalization, the customs rooted in the culture of one country or another tend to diminish or even become uniform.
With the study of best-selling perfumes by market, Cinquième Sens offers a true olfactory journey around the world. We embark on this one-day session with rich information context elements, as for the ten geographical areas studied (Europe, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, United States, Brazil, China and Japan), we discover the top 10 based on NPD and Kantar data as well as information on consumer preferences: the most popular notes, the most represented brands, etc.
As with all other training programs, emotion is at the heart of Cinquième Sens learning. The session dedicated to best-sellers is no exception: through nearly fifty sessions in which we explore an international and eclectic olfactory landscape, I became passionate about the history of the creation of Chanel No. 5 and, more recently, the phenomenal craze surrounding Lancôme’s La vie est belle. Two iconic fragrances that subsequently paved the way for many other fragrances…
I also recall with emotion discovering the scent of the seductive Miss Dior, the vigorous Male by Jean-Paul Gaultier, or the power of nature with Terre d’Hermès. This training is thus an opportunity to delve into the great names of perfumery, their olfactory pyramid and their narrative, such as that of J’Adore by Dior, a floral-fruity fragrance that is not as simple as it might seem, but also to discover gems that are popular all over the world, such as the airy Wild Bluebell by Jo Malone or the delicacy for men with Bvlgari pour Homme.
Three good reasons to attend this training:
- Knowing the best-selling products in ten key markets
- (re)discover classic perfumes that are always among the best-selling and most coveted creations
- Taming the tastes of consumers from all over the world through the notes they prefer as well as their way of consuming perfume
