It’s hard to quantify the number of launches that hit the market every year… But one thing is for sure: it’s just as hard to feel them all! For an interactive and comprehensive overview, Cinquième Sens offers at the middle of the year to take stock of the six months that have just passed. Throughout the day, we’ve felt almost fifty new products coming from both the mass and niche perfume markets, from the private collections of luxury houses, and from the brand-name brands themselves. And so, what has been happening in the perfume world since January last year? Two trends, linked to the health crisis we are experiencing, seem to dominate the latest launches: on the one hand, the theme of the plant, and on the other, the “clean” trend, which is more visible than ever. These are two important topics that make sense in the context of the quest for nature and a certain form of minimalism that echoes these troubled times and provides reassurance.

These main themes, complemented by more minor trends such as fragrance-based compositions, are of course illustrated by blind tastings that offer a welcome escape for a moment of touch-testing. We have thus traveled to Japan through the very Zen Matcha Meditation by Maison Margiela, to Italy under the sun with Ilio by Diptyque, to Scotland with Paris Edimbourg, the latest opus of the Eaux de Chanel, or to the Côte d’Azur with Eden Roc, the new creation of the private collection of Maison Christian Dior. A colorful tour of the world that is complemented by other creations that invite us to immerse ourselves in darkness, as in the new fragrance by Maison Crivelli called Osmanthe Kodoshan, which explores an osmanthus in the mist.

As summer approaches, amber notes are also being highlighted with sunny creations: Atelier Cologne offers a simple trip to a paradisiacal beach with the floral and marine notes of Lemon Island, while On the beach by Louis Vuitton works the orange blossom with an aromatic note. More than just a catch-up session, it’s a real moment of sharing and learning in which I’ve enjoyed taking part: the Cinquième Sens training sessions are always rich in discussions with the other participants and the trainer, providing a chance to learn more about the different aspects of perfume as well as the raw materials. See you at the end of the year for the day dedicated to the 2021 perfume launches!

Three good reasons to attend this training:

  • Taking the pulse of a market through its major trends such as nature
  • To experience the major new products from the biggest brands (Dior, Hermès, Chanel…)
  • Discover the olfactory preferences of more discreet creations (Amouage, Maison Crivelli, Lubin…)
